The Haltom City Fire Department gathered for the Christmas party. At this time the winners of the annual award recipients were announced. The Alton Nail firefighter of the year award went to Derek Izzo and Philip Perdue both of these two had lifesaving rescues in 2008 Izzo was lowered head first into a gas well, "rat hole" to secure a man who had fallen into the hole. Perdue entered a burning house and located a man who returned into his home. Returning the man to the exterior, he was then resuscitated by firefighters and is alive today due largely to Perdues actions. The Officer of the year is Lt. Michael Lewis Lewis is part of the firesafety clown program, shift arson investigator and instructor at Tarrant County College. EMS award Firefighter Sterling Gilliland Gilliland is a police tactical medical officer and department EMS coordinator.
